Description
Fibre: 40% Rambouillet wool, 20% Cormo wool, 15% Punta Arenas wool, 20% Tussah silk, and 5% Mulberry silk noil (approx amounts)
Weight 100g (3.5oz) 4 x 25g in each set.
I carded these batts so you can dye them yourself! I recently experimented with dyeing my batts AFTER I carded them. The results were interesting.
There are four 25g (0.88oz) batts in a set.
They've been carded once, with the different wools and silks layered throughout. Each batt starts with Rambouillet wool, then a bit of tussah silk, mulberry silk noil, and then some Cormo wool, tussah silk, silk noil, and then Punta Arenas wool, then tussah silk, and silk noil, until all the fibre is on the carder.
To prepare them for dyeing, I twist them into balls as this helps prevent the fibres from tangling and sticking to your hands. Soak them in room temperature water with a sprinkle of citric acid. The silk noil will take a long time to fully soak. You can add a tiny amount of wool wash as a wetting agent to speed this process. Once you're happy that the fibre is totally soaked you can dye them as you would if you were dyeing top or roving. The prep is a lot more delicate than wool top as carding separates the fibres.
Avoid agitating them once they're warm. Once the water in the dyebath is clear, leave to cool to room temperature (that's the hardest bit!). Gently squeeze out the water from each batt and let them soak in a bath of room temperature water to remove any citric acid. Then leave to dry.
You will receive a set of 4 x 25g (0.88oz) batts
Please note: They contain Mulberry silk noil which is a waste product from the silk spinning industry. The noil will contain bits of cocoon and may also contain non-silk threads.

Frequently asked questions
Do you collect tax?
I do not collect tax. Any customs charges will have to be paid by you once your parcel has reached your country. I am not registered for VOEC in Norway - Head over to my etsy shop where you can pay your fees when you checkout.
(If something of mine isn't available on etsy but it is here, let me know and I can make you a special listing in my etsy shop)
There's something I'd like but it's not available in your etsy shop
You can message me here or message me over on etsy and let me know which items you'd like. I'll then make you a special listing for them. I may have to increase the price as Etsy's fees are higher.
Please be aware that my Etsy shop may be in 'vacation mode'
Ordering from the EU?
I'm no longer sending orders to the EU. I'm so sorry.
What sort of mailers do you use?
All my orders are currently sent in brown Kraft paper mailers - UK and international. I also use cardboard boxes and I may also reuse old boxes for larger orders. Kraft paper mailers are splash proof but they probably won't survive being left out in the rain. From years of sending plastic mailers, I can tell you that not even plastic mailers can keep the water out. If you can, please have a safe place for your parcel to be left - I'd be happy to write a note for the postie on the mailer.
How do you package your fibre?
Currently, all my fibres are packaged in glassine paper bags.
Glassine paper is easily recyclable, and also compostable
If I run out of glassine bags or I've had a big order, I may need to pack the fibre in to a large plastic bag to make it easier to send as it helps pack the fibres in tightly.
Is your Merino non-mulesed?
YES! and it always has been.
My batts are made from commercially dyed 21-micron Merino sourced from South American flocks.
My 23-micron belnded top is from non-mulesed South African Merino flocks.
My order hasn't arrived and I'm getting worried. What should I do?
Don't worry! Message me here by using the CONTACT button and let me know that your order hasn't arrived. We'll take it from there. Sometimes there are strikes, bad weather, and general mistakes that can really delay a parcel.
You can always message me on Instagram too.
Contact me at whichever place you feel comfortable contacting me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Can I pick up my order from you?
I'm really sorry, but I don't offer local collections. I'm an online business and I no longer work from a workshop that is open to the public.
